Hello
Hello,
I'm sure you're eager to begin testing. So you're aware, you can't import cross-wiki scripts from wikimedia to here as you were attempting to do on your user script pages, in fact doing that is somewhat tricky even between wikimedia wikis, but here it won't work at all. That was incorrect, it seems cross-loading scripts here is no more tricky than it is between wikis in the same ecosystem, see below. Note that wikimedia maintains it's own ecosystem of test wikis although having the sysop flag added to your account on those could involve a tricky bureaucratic process. You also seem to be trying to import redwarn related stuff, while I'm not familiar with that tool in detail it is my understanding that many of its features run off of wikimedia toolforge and may not function as expected here.
On a related note, I can understand some irritation if you feel others are stealing your ideas, but let's be real here, it doesn't take a genius to think of testing scripts from other wikis here, you are far from the first people at this wiki to make those kind of edits, and bluntly accusing your fellow editors of stealing ideas is unlikely to result in a productive conversation anyway. Nothing too much to worry about but it always helps to be in the know, Best Fast - ZoomZoom (talk) 21:53, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Contrary to what Fast has said above, scripts from other sites can be loaded with something such as:
mw.loader.load("https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AzaToth/twinkle.js?action=raw&ctype=text/javascript");
Naleksuh (talk) 04:06, 9 December 2020 (UTC)- @Naleksuh: Thanks for the correction. Well you learn something knew everyday, and as much as I've learned about how mediawiki works over the past weeks I still have far more to learn.While we're on this topic I was curious enough about remote tools to do a few forum searches and it seems that a set of tools set up on amazon web services can be run across multiple independant wikis without too much difficulty. Now I didn't see anything about wikimedia toolforge specifically, but I would think that similar princeples are in play so it should be possible to run those tools here. However, it's my general understanding that compared to other wikifarms, wikimedia is somewhat more security conscious and much more bureacratic, so some kind of approval might be needed.
